my BR864 recording sounds "tinny" when burning to cd

when i playback a song straight into the headphones/hi fi from the 8 track, it sounds so full and perfect, when i then export as a wave file and burn it straight to a cd, its sounds all empty and "tinny" if you will.
i HAVE mastered it down,
i HAVE made sure the wav file is 44100,
what am i doing wrong?
