For the door, you could try foam tape (any home depot has this stuff in the adhesive section) .. If they're larger gaps than that, you may want to try stapling some polyurethane foam to the frame or the door as needed.
For soundproofing the room, moving blankets are a great cheap way to do it. Just hang them from horizontal 2x4's to space them away from the walls. Other solutions are carpet remnants.
If you live in farm country and you have a lot of time on your hands, you can add to the soundproofing by buying defective cardboard egg cartons (yes, you'll need a LOT of them) and gluing them on the walls or on the blankets. They should be mounted with the inside facing away from teh walls. This will dramatically reduce high-frequency audio reflections at a much lower cost than accoustic tile.
Another thing to consider is that square (or rectangular) rooms inherently cause bad sound reflections, so you could try building a false wall to change the shape of the room to something irregular. This isn't as hard as it might seem, you just need some 2x4's, a hammer and some nails and moving blankets to hang from the false wall.
