Denon AVR 3802 Loss of color (washout)

I have a Denon AVR 3802 and its hooked up to a Sony DVD player via composite video. On a regular basis, when I play DVDs, I lose color, i.e., the color fades and looks like black and white. If I turn the Denon off and on, I get the color back. It seems to happen more regularly with certain DVDs.

Does anyone have a clue about what may be going on? Is this a cojnfiguration issue, a probelm with the Denon or something else entirely?
