connection digital cable box to vcr and dvd player with surround sound

Hi i have a new samsung 50inch tv with yamaha surround sound. I have hooked up everything but the dvd player when i tried to hook up the dvd player all i get is sound no picture. any help you can give me would be great. thanks.
