Hooking VCR , DVD, and two tuner splitter to a Projection TV

I am trying to hook up a standard VCR to a 50" projection TV. i want to have the VCR connected to the 2nd tuner. The tv has PIP capability. i also want to hook the DVD player directly to the TV . when i do , it shows up in black and white. ? are my cables crossed. where can i find this info out. ?
