Sony DAVS500 No Disc Problem

I have Sony DAVS500 home theatre system which is just coming up to its warranty exiration date. It has recently stopped recognising some of my DVDs. These tend to be Warner Bros discs that are wrapped in cardboard. The titles are fairly recent and have only been played once or twice.

Teh DVDs work ok on my fairly old PC.
Does this sound familiar to anyone?
