I gather you're talking about the Bose 901.

For best results, you need a Series IV or Series III equalizer for your Series III speakers. I'll bet that there is no difference between a Series III and a Series IV EQ.

If you use a later EQ, the frequency response will be spikier. So you can't upgrade just by using a later generation EQ. Bose hedges and says that the results will be "acceptable." However, many people insist that mixing generations doesn't make any difference; I've never tried it myself.

Technically, the answer to your question is "yes." Regardless of whether it sounds good, the Series III speakers will work with the Series V equalizer.
