Mark Shilansky is primarily known as a jazz pianist/composer who has appeared as a leader and sideman at gigs and on CDs throughout New England. While still in love with jazz, Mark decided to pursue the pop side of his artistry, and get into singing once again, committing to CD a collection of his literate pop songs. "I wanted to be Billy Joel all through high school, and Herbie Hancock all through college, and now I guess I want to be both," Mark says in describing the record, and the combination of memorable melodic hooks, twisting chord progressions, and heartfelt, witty lyrics may evoke these comparisons, as well as to Sting, Elvis Costello, and Steely Dan. Mark's virtuosic piano playing and soulful voice are all over this record, as are performances by some of the area's finest musicians.
